Mr. Paterson has the following qualifications and experience:

• CISA – Certified Information Systems Auditor and former Project Management Professional.  Global certifications in IT and Project best practices and governance. Knowledgeable in all aspects of COBIT, CMMI, ITIL, PMBOK and PRINCE2. Experienced in project execution discipline and conduction of projects and IT audits in healthcare.

• CISM/CPHIMS-CA – Internationally certified as an Information Security Manager and Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems (US and Canada).

• CRISC – Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control, a global certification based on 6 or more years’ experience in the domains of Risk Identification, Risk Response, Risk Monitoring, IS Control Design and Implementation and Control Monitoring and Maintenance.

• Extensive Clinical and Healthcare IT background.  Clinical degree (Pharmacy) and 13 years of clinical practice experience.  Served as Regional CIO as part of 20 years experience in senior Healthcare IT roles at Teaching Hospitals and Regional Health Agencies.

• Extensive Health IT Project Experience – Headed client team for system development at a large teaching hospital.  As Regional CIO led a large projects to select, implement and integrate Region-wide clinical, administrative and support systems integration of all sectors including acute and long term care.  Subject Matter Expert for Canada Health Infoway in nine categories including Benefits and Change Evaluation, Privacy and Security, Vocabulary and Terminology, Certification, Subject Matter Expert and Systems/Data Architect.

• Extensive experience in working with senior health stakeholders in Canada and the US as US National Director for EHR Certification Development and Lead, Standards Uptake Strategy, Canada Health Infoway.

• Solid knowledge of e-Health issues through involvement with Infoway, CCHIT and various Ministries of Health, the  US HHS as well as direct participation in HL7, IHE, HIMSS Fellows, COACH and the Standards Collaborative.

• Considered an expert in electronic health records.

Mr. Paterson is a Clinical Pharmacist, Information Systems Auditor, Information Security Manager, Benefits Evaluator, System Architect, Certified Risk Manager, Project Management Expert and Health Informaticist with a Clinical background who is a certified Information Systems Auditor, Security Manager, and Risk Assessor. He is an experienced consultant and expert with a focus on addressing, solving and evaluating health business problems through the creative adaption of technology.

He has over 25 years of experience in the successful architecting and implementation of health technology and information management principles and standards into complex health environments supporting business goals at a national and regional level in the US and Canada.  

Mr. Paterson is an accredited ATCB Assessor for US Health and Human Services.  This involves a solid understanding of published standards and expert level review and assessment of integration, functionality, technical and performance issues related to the design, use and implementation of electronic health records.

Mr. Paterson has solid credentials and experience in these area as well as strong capabilities in corporate change management, balanced scorecards, benefits evaluation, key performance indicators, project and systems audits, privacy and security compliance and audits, and the incorporation of technology into complex clinical workflows.
